Tickets à 100 FCFA et abonnements à 500 FCFA : un vaste réseau de Wifi illégal démantelé aux marchés HLM et Nguélaw
An operation by the Research Section (SR) of Dakar has dismantled a fraudulent distribution network of Internet access operating in several markets of the capital, following a complaint filed by Sonatel.
Investigators identified three clandestine sites. Two were operated at the Nguélaw market by JB Tine and C. Ndao, and a third at the HLM market by A. Diop. The searches resulted in the seizure of significant technical equipment, including Starlink devices, modems, and switches.
According to the investigation, JB Tine, assisted by his brother Abdoulaye, resold internet access in the form of 100 FCFA tickets for 12 hours, generating up to 100,000 FCFA in monthly revenue. A. Diop, for his part, sold weekly subscriptions for 500 FCFA. As for C. Ndao, he carried out illegal connections directly to the Sonatel network.
In total, four people were arrested and then brought before the Dakar prosecutor's office. They are being prosecuted for criminal conspiracy, illegally operating a telecommunications business without a license, as well as for illegal connection, misappropriation and fraudulent use of infrastructure belonging to an authorized operator, reports Libération.
