Tivaouane face aux urgences à deux mois du Gamou

Time is running out. With less than 2 months to go before the annual Gamou or Mawloud-Al-Nabi celebration commemorating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be upon Him), the commune of Tivaouane, capital of the Tidianiyya, is facing emergencies.

In the religious city, authoritative voices welcome the implementation of the Tivaouane stormwater drainage project.

According to El Hadji Malick Sy's grandson, Moulay Abdou Aziz Diop, if the company in charge of the work does not receive what is owed to it, it could face constraints in meeting the deadlines.

“Completing the work on time is very important. But the most important thing is the quality of the work and the impact on the population, especially during the rainy season,” he said.

The latter points out that the Gamou will be celebrated this year and for the next two years (2027 and 2028) during the rainy season, in August, and from 2029 onwards, in July, not counting the ten days of "Bourd." This event draws more than 4 million faithful pilgrims, a large number of whom camp and cook outdoors. Moulay Dabaakh believes it would be more prudent to anticipate this during the preparatory CDD and CRD meetings by proposing temporary alternative solutions such as motor pumps and hydro-jetting trucks in case the work is not completed before the Gamou.

Regarding the roads, "most of the streets and thoroughfares in the town are in a state of advanced disrepair due to a lack of maintenance and rehabilitation," laments Mame Maodo's grandson. He believes it is also necessary to plan access roads and major thoroughfares to the hospitals and the spiritual and emotional heartland of Tivaouane, the Seydi Elhadji Malick Sy Rta quarter, where religious buildings, mausoleums, and the residences of various religious authorities are located, particularly that of the Caliph General of the Tijaniyya.

Regarding health, the new level 3 hospital Mame El Hadji Malick Sy, launched in 2022 and whose construction was completed in 2025, has not yet been delivered.

He recalls that the Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh Rta hospital is still waiting for its rehabilitation, the upgrading of the medical facilities and the state subsidy in accordance with its level 2 status. The upward review of the subsidy was outlined.

He points out that the Tivaouane department currently lacks a functional hemodialysis unit, forcing kidney patients to travel across the country for treatment. Consequently, the mining companies ICS and GCO have been urged to play their part.

It's worth remembering that the municipality had 102,000 inhabitants according to the last ANSD census in 2023, with a 30% increase every 10 years. Consequently, Tivaouane needs more infrastructure to support its development.

L'état, l'état, toujours l'état ! Quand vous avez des centaines de millions, vous ne pensez jamais au bien commun, ils mettent tout l'argent dans les mosquées... Euskey !
