Tivaouane : La psychose des accidents dus aux motos-Jakarta hante le sommeil des populations

A general panic, triggered by the surge in tragic traffic accidents involving motorcycles, is keeping residents of the religious city of Tivaouane up at night. The population is calling on the authorities to increase police vigilance. They recall the tragedy on National Highway 2 at the corner of the Mboro road, where a motorcycle driver, swerving to avoid an ICS truck, skidded and struck two pedestrians who died in the crash in front of the gas station. They also remember the day a nine-year-old boy lost his life in an accident caused by a motorcycle near the basketball court of School 1 on Alioune Palla Mbaye Avenue.

To curb the spiral of accidents, residents of the religious city are calling for increased road safety measures, especially during the school year. Alioune Palla Mbaye Avenue, National Route 2 at the corner of the Mboro road, and the main road that runs through the old prefecture and the HLM housing projects are frequently cited as the scene of these tragic accidents.

The parents' association of school number 1 is requesting the town hall and the prefecture to have police officers present at these locations during peak hours. This is similar to the situation at the intersection of National Route 2 and Mboro, where accidents are narrowly avoided every morning.

The same situation is also observed on the main road that runs through the housing estates, near the old prefecture building. On this stretch, all day long, motorcycle taxis speed recklessly, despite the installation of speed bumps.
