Tivaouane-Peulh : 8 criminels étrangers arrêtés par la gendarmerie, 17,5 millions FCFA soutirés, 24 victimes sauvées
The Dakar Gendarmerie Legion dealt a fatal blow to a vast international network of organized criminals operating between Niacourab and Tivaouane Peulh. This operation, conducted on January 4, 2026, resulted in the arrest of eight foreign nationals and the liberation of twenty-four victims who had been defrauded of more than 17 million CFA francs.
An operation planned as part of the fight against cross-border crime
In accordance with directives from High Command, the Dakar Gendarmerie Legion, under the command of Colonel Malick Faye, is actively pursuing its efforts to combat delinquency and transnational crime. Following the exploitation of reliable intelligence indicating the existence of a Qnet network established in the Tivaouane Peulh area, the local community brigade conducted a raid on January 4, 2026, at the premises used by these criminals.
The arrest of eight criminals of various nationalities
The operation carried out by the gendarmes resulted in the arrest of eight individuals, all of foreign nationality, including the instigator and leader of the network.
According to information given to Seneweb by Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye, head of the Communication and Public Relations Division of the National Gendarmerie of Senegal, the group arrested consisted of two Ivorians, two Burkinabe, two Congolese, one Malian and one Beninese.
Investigations revealed that the network's leaders used a sophisticated platform to ensnare their victims, who were mostly foreign nationals seeking employment opportunities. These criminals enticed their targets with the prospect of a job at an established company, but first demanded payment of registration fees ranging from 600,000 to 1,500,000 CFA francs. Once the money was collected, the promised jobs were never fulfilled, leaving the victims destitute and desperate.
Twenty-four victims were rescued during the operation.
At the time of the police raid, twenty-four people were present and identified as victims of this criminal network. These individuals, from various West African countries, had all been lured by the perpetrators' false promises of employment. The group of victims included eight Beninese, six Congolese, three Ivorians, two Guineans, two Senegalese, one Gambian, one Burkinabe, and one Malian, all hoping to find decent work to improve their living conditions.
Financial losses estimated at over 17 million CFA francs
According to statements by Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye, spokesperson for the National Gendarmerie, the investigations carried out have established that the total sum fraudulently collected by the members of this network amounts to seventeen million five hundred and fifty thousand CFA francs.
The National Gendarmerie takes this opportunity to remind the public that its Call Centre remains accessible free of charge twenty-four hours a day at the numbers 123 and 800 00 20 20 for any useful information concerning suspicious or criminal activities.
