Touba : Un camion-citerne mal garé révèle 1 060 l de carburant détourné

A tanker truck parked suspiciously aroused the suspicions of the commander of the urban police force at the Ndamatou district police station. The ensuing operation led to the dismantling of an illegal fuel trafficking operation and the arrest of two individuals.

On June 4, 2026, at approximately 4:30 p.m., during a sector patrol in the Darou Marnane neighborhood of Touba, the commander of the urban corps of the Ndamatou district police station noticed a tanker truck parked suspiciously in front of a property. A thorough inspection of the vehicle revealed a fraudulent device installed on its left side, specifically designed to extract fuel outside of official channels.

The search of the concession uncovered a clandestine transfer operation, commonly known as an illegal unloading system. Investigators then seized 53 20-liter jerrycans of diesel fuel, totaling 1,060 liters, 20 empty jerrycans, and a unloading hose used for the fraudulent extraction of the fuel.

After being apprehended and briefly questioned, the two individuals confessed. The first admitted to owning the illegal fuel depot. The second, the tanker truck driver, stated that he had transported the fuel from Dakar, specifying that he was initially supposed to deliver it to the interior of the country on behalf of a major oil company.

The heavy goods vehicle and all the seized jerrycans were impounded at the police station for the purposes of the procedure.

This operation echoes several complaints recently filed with the police station by GTA, a company based in Ndendory, in the Matam region. According to company officials, the geolocation system of their tanker trucks repeatedly pointed to this area of the Touba-Mosquée commune as a suspicious unloading zone.

The two suspects have been taken into custody. They are being prosecuted for trafficking and illegally selling fuel, and endangering the lives of others.
