Trafic de chanvre indien à Kédougou : deux ressortissants guinéens condamnés à deux ans de prison ferme

The High Court of Kédougou today delivered its verdict in a case involving the possession, offering, and sale of Indian hemp, implicating two Guinean nationals. AO Diallo, 18, and I. Camara, 35, were prosecuted for events that occurred on January 6th.

Placed in pretrial detention, the two defendants appeared in court where they admitted to using cannabis for personal use, while denying any involvement in a trafficking network. This version of events was challenged by the evidence presented by the Defense and Security Forces (FDS).

According to the case file, police uncovered the commercial nature of the defendants' activities following a surveillance operation, revealing an organization that went beyond simple consumption. The prosecution thus stated that, "whatever the pretexts put forward, the facts remain the same." It noted that the defendants admitted to having acquired 125 grams and 3 kilograms of cannabis, respectively.

Given the seriousness of the facts, the public prosecutor has requested two years of imprisonment, as well as the destruction of the seized drugs.

Speaking for the defense, Mr. Ndiaye requested a "lenient" application of the penal code. He cited the social difficulties his clients faced, which, in his view, could lead ordinary citizens to break the law. The lawyer also emphasized the personal situation of I. Camara, a father whose wife is pregnant, asking the court to consider him a casual offender and to reclassify the charges.

After deliberation, the court found the two defendants guilty and sentenced them to two years in prison. The court also ordered the seizure of the motorcycle used in the operation and the destruction of the marijuana.

This decision is part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking in the Kédougou region, which regularly faces this cross-border phenomenon.
