Transport ferroviaire : La ligne Dakar-Tambacounda achevée à 90 %
The train whistle will soon resonate with renewed intensity in the east of the country. The Dakar-Tambacounda rail corridor is about to come back to life. The rehabilitation of the line is nearing completion, marking a decisive step in the national strategy to revive freight traffic and modernize railway infrastructure.
According to the Minister of Transport, the renovation project on the Dakar-Tambacounda railway line is now 90% complete. Yankhoba Diémé stated that the rehabilitation of this railway infrastructure is central to the government's new mobility policy. The immediate expected impact is the preservation of roads through a reduction in truck traffic heading east.
The government's ambition extends beyond the rehabilitation of this line (Dakar-Tamba). The project is part of a comprehensive plan to revitalize rail transport, which also includes the modernization of other secondary lines throughout Senegal. Furthermore, the plan actively seeks funding for the deployment of standard-gauge sections, enabling increased speed and passenger capacity.
