Transport : Yankoba Diémé lance un ultimatum aux "motos-Jakarta"
The Minister of Land and Air Transport announced measures on Sunday to regularize the status of "Jakarta motorcycle" drivers. Speaking on Radio Senegal International (RSI), Yankoba Diémé indicated that 35,000 vehicle registration documents remain to be issued due to difficulties related to data entry.
To expedite the process, measures have been taken, including setting up a large room at the CICES to bolster the teams responsible for data entry. The goal is to finalize the operation by the end of February, or at the latest by March.
The minister indicated that "once the grace period has expired, the awareness phase will give way to systematic repression."
He urged owners to contact the relevant authorities to retrieve their documents. "Beyond this deadline, roadside checks will become stricter and penalties will be rigorously applied throughout the country for any failure to regularize," he warned.
Despite these emergency measures, the minister favoured a more nuanced approach based on technical studies, including the development of special reserved lanes or restrictions by geographical areas.
According to him, these transformations, resulting from the conclusions of the general transport conference, will be the subject of in-depth consultations to measure their social impact before any implementation.
Users of two-wheeled vehicles are therefore encouraged to comply with regulations to avoid penalties.
