UCAD : Le gouvernement s'engage à faire la lumière sur la mort de l'étudiant Abdoulaye BA
The Senegalese government issued an official statement on Monday following the death of a student at Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) in Dakar.
"Serious events that occurred on Monday, February 9, 2026 at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar led to the death of student Abdoulaye BA, enrolled in the second year of a Bachelor's degree in Medicine," the statement said.
"In this painful circumstance, the Government respectfully bows before the memory of the deceased and extends its deepest condolences to his family, his loved ones, and the entire university community," the document reads.
"The Government calls on all stakeholders to exercise restraint, a sense of responsibility and calm," the statement said.
"Committed to the manifestation of truth and respect for the rule of law, the Government undertakes to ensure that the full truth is revealed about the circumstances of this tragedy and that any responsibilities are established in accordance with the laws and regulations in force," the text emphasizes.
"The Government also reaffirms its determination to ensure the safety of the social campus and the protection of all students. Immediate and appropriate measures will be taken to this end," the statement assures.
"Given the seriousness of the facts and in the interest of transparency, a press conference will be held this Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. at the Prime Minister's Office, in the presence of the Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, the Minister of the Armed Forces, the Minister of the Interior and Public Security, as well as the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation."
The press release was signed on February 10 by Marie Rose Khady Fatou Faye, Secretary of State to the Prime Minister in charge of Relations with Institutions and Government Spokesperson.
