États-Unis : après Denver, une autre famille sénégalaise décimée par les flammes à Columbus
A devastating fire ravaged a house in Columbus, Ohio (USA), on the night of November 18, killing a Senegalese family. The blaze, which broke out after 2 a.m. on Freedom Trail, killed three adults and seriously injured two others, according to Les Échos in its Wednesday, November 19 edition.
Three adults died, and two people—a woman and a child—were seriously injured. The child, rushed to Nationwide Children's Hospital, is in critical condition. The woman's condition is stable, and she has been admitted to Mount Carmel East Hospital.
When emergency services arrived, the house was already completely engulfed in flames. Two men and a woman were found dead inside. The injured woman and child survived by jumping from a top-floor window.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, according to the same source. Columbus police, the homicide unit, and arson investigators are working together to determine whether it was an accident or a criminal act—a possibility that has not been ruled out.
The Senegalese community in Ohio is in shock. Ibrahima Sow, president of the Association of Senegalese Living in Ohio (ASECO), described the family as "discreet and highly respected." An appeal for solidarity and prayers has been launched for the survivors.
This tragedy revives the painful memory of the arson attack that killed five members of a Senegalese family in Denver in 2021, the newspaper recalls: Djibril Diol, his wife, his daughter, and his nephew. One of those responsible for that tragedy, 19-year-old Gavin Seymour, was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
