Ville de Thiès : Le budget 2026 arrêté à 8 milliards FCFA
The Thiès City Council met in ordinary session to vote on the 2026 municipal budget. The councilors unanimously approved the budget, estimated at 8 billion CFA francs.
The Council also unanimously adopted several major decisions, including the resolution to officially support the City's bid to host the national celebration of Independence Day on April 4, 2026.
The Council recalled the historical role of Thiès in the organization of this festival, particularly in 1979 under the presidency of Léopold Sédar Senghor.
According to Mayor Babacar Diop, the City of Thiès now has an iconic avenue and the logistical and security capabilities adapted to properly host this national event.
As part of the preparation for 2026, he announced that several projects are already underway and will be consolidated, including the improvement of public lighting, the installation of traffic lights, the paving of Caen Avenue, road maintenance, the municipal library project, as well as training and funding programs for women.
According to him, these initiatives are part of the dynamic of modernizing the City and strengthening its infrastructure, in line with the directive of the President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, relating to the decentralization of the national parade, promoting territorial equity and the development of regional hubs.
The City Council also highlighted the strategic importance of Thiès' bid to host the International Jazz Festival, at the invitation of UNESCO.
According to the city council, this event, never before organized in sub-Saharan Africa since its creation, will be supported by major sponsors, including the artist Youssou Ndour, and will be a first for Senegal.

Rien que du vent, ils n’ont rien foutu ici. Cet après midi j’ai effectué un tour dans la ville après plusieurs mois d’empêchement, mais j’ai été sidéré. Aucune route praticable, toute la voirie intérieure défoncée, à part l’avenue Caen, les bâtiments construits par Idrissa Seck et quelques immeubles administratifs. Du saupoudrage, une ville sale et totalement désordonnée. Le comble, c’est ce gros portrait du Maire sur la façade de l’hôtel de ville, comme si c’est lui qui l’a construit. Un vrai culte de la personnalité, une escroquerie politique ce gars. Qu’il fasse son bilan, à part quelques pavés, et une poignée de feux bidon, c’est quoi ??? Des ampoules néon sur des poteaux déjà implantés par Idy ? Quelle triste ville !
L'avenue de Caen est magnifique. Il y a ausi l'installation prochaine des feux tricolore. A part ça, rien nada. Du tape à l'oeil, mais rien n'a changé dans le quotidien des thièssois par rapport aux compétences décentralisées. A part le maire de Thiès Est qui est le moins mauvais, tous les autres maires des communes et de la Ville de Thiès sont décevants.
Aucun changement dans les quartiers. Aussi bien les communes que la ville.
