Violences politiques de 2021 à 2024 : La RADDHO réclame justice et réparation pour les victimes
Beyond the individual tragedies, this violence has profoundly affected social cohesion and undermined citizens' trust in public institutions, particularly the judicial system. For several years, calls have been mounting for independent and thorough investigations to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
Following the national justice conference, the new authorities expressed their commitment to fully investigating the political violence that occurred between 2021 and 2024. In January 2025, five billion CFA francs were allocated to victims as financial assistance. The authorities also pledged to identify and prosecute the perpetrators of these crimes, while guaranteeing fair compensation.
However, the victims denounce the slowness of the judicial proceedings and the lack of concrete measures. According to them, lasting peace and genuine national reconciliation cannot be achieved without truth and justice.
Furthermore, the institutional and legal reforms announced by the President of the Republic in his speech of April 3, 2025, have yet to be implemented. To date, no official structure has been created to support victims, maintain dialogue with them, and assist them in their legal proceedings.
Faced with this situation, the African Meeting for the Defense of Human Rights (RADDHO), a non-governmental organization with special status at the ECOSOC of the United Nations and an observer member of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR), recalls the obligation for the Senegalese State to guarantee the fundamental right of each victim to justice.
According to RADDHO, this requires establishing the full truth about the crimes committed between 2021 and 2024, identifying their perpetrators and initiating legal proceedings in accordance with national legislation and Senegal's international human rights commitments.
Nearly two years after the current authorities came to power, no significant action has yet been taken to demonstrate a genuine commitment to delivering justice to the victims. "Delayed justice is tantamount to a denial of justice," the organization reiterates.
RADDHO invites victims to take legal action against those responsible for these violations and to contribute to accelerating judicial proceedings.
Finally, the organization recommends the establishment of a truth and reconciliation commission dedicated to the political violence of the period 2021-2024. Such an initiative would allow for in-depth investigations, the establishment of responsibilities, the promotion of national reconciliation and the provision of comprehensive reparations, complementing the actions of criminal and civil courts.
