Centenaire de Wade : Le vibrant hommage du Pr Moussa Baldé à « Maama »
On the centenary of former Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade, tributes continue to pour in from all regions of the country. Among those who have spoken out in praise of the statesman is Professor Moussa Baldé, former minister and president of the Kolda Departmental Council, who was keen to extol the political and moral legacy of the man he affectionately calls "Maama".
In a message imbued with respect and gratitude, the political leader emphasized that the celebration of Abdoulaye Wade's 100th birthday was much more than just an anniversary. According to him, it was an opportunity for Senegal to pay tribute to "a major figure in its political history, a tireless champion of democracy, and the architect of the political transition of 2000."
Professor Moussa Baldé emphasizes that the former head of state's career was marked by struggles, sacrifices, and a constant commitment to democratic freedoms. But beyond his political achievements, he particularly remembers a lesson that he considers still relevant today.
"While he was leading his political struggle with determination, Abdoulaye Wade reminded everyone that he did not want to walk over corpses to get to the Palace," he recalls.
For the former minister, this statement alone encapsulates a certain conception of politics, founded on respect for human life, the rejection of violence, and the preservation of civil peace. A vision which, according to him, remains a benchmark in a context where political tensions can sometimes severely test national cohesion.
The political leader believes that President Wade's legacy now transcends partisan divisions to become fully part of national history. "One hundred years later, his legacy now belongs to all those who believe in a Republic founded on dialogue, freedom, and respect for human dignity," he emphasizes.
Concluding his tribute, Professor Moussa Baldé addressed a message of gratitude to the former president. "Thank you, Maama. Continue to support Senegal and Africa," he wrote, praising the wisdom and experience of a man who, a century after his birth, continues to shape the collective memory of the country.
