The courtroom of the Pikine-Guédiawaye High Court was the scene of a chilling trial this Friday. L. Faye, a 40-year-old bricklayer with a disturbing profile, was on trial for acts of pedophilia against a 15-year-old boy.
The events date back to late December in Zac Mbao, recounts L'Observateur, which attended the hearing. Under the pretext of asking for help with household chores, the man in his forties lured the young A. Nd. into his room. Once the door was locked, he tried to buy the teenager's silence with a single 1,000 CFA franc note before forcibly undressing him and attempting penetration. The victim managed to escape and alert those around him. A chase ensued through the alleys of the Zac Mbao neighborhood, at the end of which the defendant was caught by residents and handed over to the police.
According to the same source, the case revealed sordid details. In addition to his criminal record, investigators discovered photos of other children in his possession, potential victims of his actions.
In court, the man in his forties attempted to justify his actions by invoking "the influence of evil spirits" and begged the judge to release him so he could attend his wedding in Kaolack. This line of defense was dismissed by the prosecutor, who saw it as a strategy to evade responsibility.
Concerned with isolating an individual deemed dangerous to society, the court handed down a harsher sentence than the prosecution's request of five years. Found guilty of indecent assault, unnatural acts, and abduction of a minor, L. Faye was sentenced to seven years in prison, concludes the newspaper of the Groupe Futurs Médias.
