Ziguinchor : Un chauffeur de taxi-clando menotté manu militari
It was a scene straight out of a Hollywood movie. The driver of an unlicensed taxi was forcibly handcuffed by a member of the security and defense forces, who then took him to the Néma gendarmerie brigade. This happened on Wednesday between 8 and 9 a.m. at the unlicensed taxi stand in front of Assane Seck University in Ziguinchor.
The incident occurred following a verbal exchange between the driver and the lawyer. The incident was widely discussed at the taxi stand. Other unlicensed taxi drivers blamed the member of the security forces who, according to them, signaled as if he were entering the university. The unlicensed taxi driver attempted to turn off in the opposite direction. Since the university entrance was blocked, the security forces member tried to proceed while signaling, thus preventing the other driver from exiting by cutting in front of him.
It was following some heated exchanges that the law enforcement officer asked the driver of the unlicensed taxi for the car's documents, who refused to comply without knowing what he was accused of.
Tensions escalated, with other drivers, passengers, and passersby intervening to try and restore calm, but to no avail.
