Ziguinchor : Climat délétère au CROUS, le syndicat boycotte les vœux et dénonce une « gestion injuste »
This is an unprecedented event in the history of the Regional Center for University and Social Services (CROUS) of Ziguinchor. The traditional New Year's greetings ceremony, usually marked by courtesy and wishes for prosperity, took an unusual turn due to high social tension.
Far from the usual platitudes, the Secretary General of the Union of CROUS Agents (SATCOUS), Samsidine Traoré, adopted a severe tone to describe a situation he considers alarming within the institution attached to the Assane Seck University of Ziguinchor.
In a forthright speech, the union leader painted a bleak picture of a management style marked, in his view, by injustice, repeated frustrations, and growing suffering among workers. Samsidine Traoré justified his refusal to offer New Year's greetings by citing the profound deterioration of the work environment.
He specifically denounced unilateral administrative decisions, citing revisions to employment contracts carried out without any consultation with employee representatives. According to SATCOUS, these management practices have severely impacted the job security and personal lives of many employees.
Bonuses eliminated and careers blocked
The union leader also drew attention to the elimination of bonuses and allowances that had been considered acquired rights for several years. This measure, he argued, has exacerbated workers' financial insecurity and weakened their purchasing power.
In addition, he claims, newly recruited officers are being promoted and appointed at the expense of more senior and experienced staff. This lack of career prospects is fueling a deep sense of injustice and discouragement within the ranks.
SATCOUS is raising the alarm about the consequences of what it calls toxic management. Constant stress, psychological distress, health problems, and forced departures have been cited as indicators of a persistent malaise. According to the union, this climate is affecting not only staff but also the quality of service provided to students.
With this action, SATCOUS demonstrates its determination to break with a management style deemed disconnected from the realities faced by staff. The union demands concrete actions, including the reinstatement of bonuses, an end to administrative unilateralism, and the establishment of fair career progression rules.
The union calls on workers to mobilize together in order to impose lasting reforms and restore the dignity of the CROUS staff in Ziguinchor by 2026.
