Ziguinchor : Les agents municipaux exigent la revalorisation salariale et menacent le maire d’actions musclées
Ziguinchor municipal employees, gathered under the auspices of the Intersyndicale des travailleurs des collectivités territoriales (Inter-Union of Local Government Workers), are raising their voices and calling on Mayor Djibril Sonko to comply with the memorandum of understanding signed with the Ministry of Local Government. They are demanding the immediate and unreserved implementation of the ministerial circular of July 15, 2025, which stipulates the revaluation of their salaries, and are warning the mayor against any inaction.
During a press briefing held last night in the town hall's deliberation room, the agents, supported by the Intersyndicale, threatened to engage in any form of legal and legitimate mobilization if their demands are not met as soon as possible. According to Amadou Diédhiou, a member of the General Federation of Workers of Senegal (FGTS/B) and spokesperson for the day, "this circular is not an option, but a decision of the State that is imposed on all municipalities in Senegal."
He recalled that "the State has identified 131 municipalities out of 601 which, due to their limited resources, cannot immediately implement the salary increase." He specified that the government has released an amount of one billion five hundred million euros to guarantee fairness and the effective implementation of the measure in all municipalities, including those in difficulty.
Amadou Diédhiou asserts that Ziguinchor is not among these 131 vulnerable municipalities. Municipal officials point out that the ministerial circular, resulting from a signed memorandum of understanding, binds the state and all local authorities. Its implementation cannot be conditional on a future improvement in internal revenue, according to their spokesperson. "Delaying its implementation amounts to calling into question the government's authority, weakening workers' confidence, and perpetuating unacceptable social injustice," declared Amadou Diédhiou, a member of the FGTS/B and spokesperson for Ziguinchor city hall officials on the occasion.
