Ziguinchor : Le plan d'attaque des autorités pour stopper les violences contre les femmes
In Ziguinchor, authorities and civil society actors held a two-day workshop to strengthen the fight against violence against women and girls. Chaired by Deputy Governor Alseyni Bangoura (promoted to Prefect of Goudiry during the Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, April 15, 2026), the meeting highlighted the need to adapt responses to local realities and to coordinate initiatives.
“This involves addressing a whole range of violence,” explained Ms. Khadidiatou Rassoul Guèye, head of gender-based violence (GBV) issues at the Women's Platform for Peace in Casamance. The discussions highlighted the need to adapt responses to local realities, where violence remains a serious concern.
This workshop is part of the national KAARANGUE project, entitled "Support for the Elimination of Violence: A Perspective on Empowering Women and Girls." This project is led by UN Women and the Ministry of Family Affairs. Seven regions are targeted, including Ziguinchor and Sédhiou, where violence remains a serious concern. The objective is to improve access to support services, strengthen the resilience of victims, and promote women's empowerment.
To avoid a fragmentation of efforts, regional harmonization committees were established. Participants worked on coordinated action plans to strengthen the protection of women and ensure a more structured response. With these strategies, the authorities hope to take a decisive step towards a safer and more inclusive society in Casamance.
