Ziguinchor : un minibus bascule du pont Émile Badiane, un mort et plusieurs disparus
A serious accident occurred this Tuesday on the Casamance River, near the Émile Badiane bridge, when a minibus heading to Dakar plunged into the water under circumstances that are still unclear.
According to initial reports from the scene, the tragedy has already claimed at least one life, while several passengers remain missing. The overall death toll could unfortunately rise as search and rescue operations continue.
Very quickly after the alert, a large contingent of national gendarmes and firefighters was deployed to the scene to locate victims and attempt to rescue any possible survivors. Local residents and fishermen, witnesses to the scene, also spontaneously mobilized to participate in the initial rescue operations.
Emotions are running high in the area where a large crowd of onlookers and relatives of the passengers have gathered near the Émile Badiane bridge, anxiously awaiting information on the fate of the vehicle's occupants.
The exact causes of this fatal road accident remain unknown at this time. An investigation will be opened by the security forces to determine the circumstances of this spectacular and tragic plunge into the Casamance River.
Search and recovery operations are actively continuing on site under the supervision of the defense and security forces.
