18 Sénégalais «otages» du Maroc : Khady Diène Gaye rassure
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Khady Diène Gaye, sought to reassure the public and the families of the 18 Senegalese supporters imprisoned in Morocco for nearly two months. Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting organized by her department's Gender Unit, she affirmed that the State is actively working towards their repatriation.
"Rest assured, the government is sparing no effort to ensure that supporters can return peacefully to their country," she guaranteed, according to remarks reported by APS and picked up by Le Quotidien.
Arrested on January 18, these supporters were sentenced on February 19 by the Rabat High Court to prison terms ranging from three months to one year for hooliganism. According to their lawyer, Patrick Kabou, quoted in the Avenir Communication group's daily newspaper, the Moroccan public prosecutor and the civil party have appealed this decision. The hearing before the Court of Appeal is scheduled for Monday, March 16.
