Coupe du monde 2026 : l’Algérie enregistre un forfait
Anthony Mandrea's dream of playing in the 2026 World Cup is definitively over. The Algerian international goalkeeper will not be able to take part in the global tournament, scheduled from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Having picked up an injury in training last week, the imposing (1.87m) goalkeeper for SM Caen still held a slim hope of returning in time for the competition. His coach, Gaël Clichy, had initially been relatively optimistic, suggesting the situation was less serious than feared and emphasizing the staff's commitment to doing everything possible to get him back on his feet.
But medical examinations ultimately delivered a more serious diagnosis. Anthony Mandrea (22 caps) has suffered a dislocated shoulder requiring surgery. This operation ends his season and will keep him off the field for several weeks.
"Anthony Mandrea has to undergo surgery on Wednesday; his season is over. His participation in the World Cup is also out," confirmed a resigned Gaël Clichy. A major blow for the player, who had high hopes for the Algerian national team.
