Coupe du monde 2026 : L’entraîneur de la République tchèque jette l’éponge
The poor results recorded during the group stage of the 2026 World Cup continue to take their toll on the coaching staff. This time, it's the Czech Republic national team that has decided to move on after its premature elimination.
Finishing last in Group A with two losses and a draw, the Czech team never managed to find its rhythm during the tournament. Faced with this failure, the Czech Football Association and coach Miroslav Koubek mutually agreed to end their collaboration.
The 74-year-old coach is stepping down after just six matches in charge of the national team. Appointed in December 2025, he had nevertheless achieved a major objective by qualifying the Czech Republic for the 2026 World Cup, their first appearance since the 2006 edition.
In a statement published on the social network X, the federation paid tribute to its now former coach: "Miroslav Koubek is leaving his position as head coach of the Czech national team by mutual agreement with the Czech Football Association. Thank you for allowing us to return to the World Cup after a twenty-year absence."
This departure comes a few days after another significant announcement for Czech football: striker and captain Patrik Schick has decided to end his international career.
This double news opens a period of profound reconstruction for Nároďák, which is called upon to reinvent itself after a particularly disappointing world campaign.
