Japan's national football team coach, Hajime Moriyasu, unveiled his 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup on Friday. The squad is marked by several notable absences, including those of Takumi Minamino and Kaoru Mitoma.
The AS Monaco attacking midfielder is unavailable after suffering a left knee injury last December. Kaoru Mitoma is also not included in the Blue Samurai squad for this World Cup tournament.
Conversely, several players playing in Ligue 1 have been called up, notably Ayumu Seko of Le Havre AC and Keito Nakamura of Stade de Reims.
Drawn in Group F, the Japanese will face the Netherlands, Tunisia and Sweden .
