Coupe du monde 2026 : Les célébrations de la qualification du Mexique virent au drame
The joy sparked by Mexico's qualification for the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup was overshadowed by a tragedy in Mexico City. Two fans lost their lives during the post-match celebrations.
According to Mexico City health authorities, the victims were a 19-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man. Both were treated by emergency services and transported to a hospital, but unfortunately did not survive despite the doctors' efforts.
According to information relayed by the local newspaper "El Universal," the two victims belonged to the same family. They are believed to have suffocated during large crowd surges caused by the celebrations and fireworks that accompanied the qualification of the Mexican national team.
In response to this tragedy, authorities immediately launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. Investigators are also reportedly searching for a third person who may have been involved or possess crucial information to shed light on this tragedy.
