Coupe du monde 2026 : Un joueur marocain bloqué à Rabat faute de visa
Just days before their entry into the 2026 World Cup, Morocco is dealing with an unexpected administrative issue. Zakaria El Ouahdi was unable to travel with the Atlas Lions to the United States due to a visa problem, while the FRMF is working to resolve the situation.
The Moroccan national team departed for the United States on Wednesday in preparation for the 2026 World Cup. However, one player called up by the national coach did not accompany the group due to an administrative problem related to his visa.
In the wake of their resounding victory against Madagascar (4-0) in a friendly match in Rabat, Morocco flew to the United States where they will play a final test against Norway on Sunday in New York, before their entry into the World Cup scheduled from June 11 to July 19.
According to several sources, including insider Youssef, journalist Izem Anass, and Foot Mercato, Genk's full-back, Zakaria El Ouahdi, did not obtain his US entry visa in time. His absence was noted when the Moroccan delegation departed.
The player is not the only one affected by this administrative setback. According to the same sources, another Moroccan international, whose identity has not been revealed, as well as a member of the technical staff, were also awaiting their visas on the eve of the trip.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) is nevertheless continuing the necessary steps to regularize the situation.
If the document is issued in the next few hours, Zakaria El Ouahdi could join the squad on Saturday alongside federal officials.
As a precaution, the coach called up the young Anderlecht defender, Ali Maamar (21 years old), who has already joined the rest of the squad in the United States. He notably filled in for Achraf Hakimi during the match against Madagascar.
