The French national football team has secured its third consecutive victory in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. Les Bleus, led by their captain Kylian Mbappé, beat Azerbaijan 3-0. However, the task was not easy for Didier Deschamps' men.
Facing a very tenacious Azeri team, the reigning world champions had to wait until the first-half stoppage time to find a way through the opposing defense. Kylian Mbappé took advantage of a relay with Hugo Ekitike to open the scoring (45+2).
After a laborious first half, France negotiated the second better, managing to score two more goals through Adrien Rabiot (69th) and Florian Thauvin (84th). This third consecutive victory allows the Blues to occupy the sole first place in Group D with 9 points.
In Group A, Germany reassured itself. The Mannschaft, which had started qualifying with a 2-0 defeat in Slovakia, followed up with a second victory by beating Luxembourg 4-0. The German goals were scored by David Raum (12th), Joshua Kimmich (21st and 50th), and Serge Gnabry (50th). With this big win, Germany (6 pts) occupies first place, tied on points with Ireland (2nd, 6 pts) and Slovakia (3rd, 6 pts).
