Coupe du monde 2026 - Sénégal : La liste probable de Pape Thiaw
This Thursday, coach Pape Thiaw will unveil the list of 26 Senegalese players called up for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. While the coach is still considering some players, there is little suspense regarding the majority of the footballers who will make up the squad.
For the goalkeepers, Pape Thiaw will make no changes. The three who were called up for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and who then shared the squad during the subsequent international breaks, will go to the World Cup. These are Edouard Mendy, Yehvann Diouf, and Mory Diaw. The same applies to midfield and defense. The only doubt concerns captain Kalidou Koulibaly, who has been injured for several weeks. But the Al-Hilal player should be on Pape Thiaw's list, and in the worst-case scenario, he could be available for the knockout stage if Senegal qualifies.
However, in attack, Pape Thiaw will have to make some tough choices. With Bamba Dieng's strong return and the decline in form of Boulaye Dia, Habib Diallo, and Chérif Ndiaye at club level, combined with the return of Assane Diao, changes are expected. During the last international break, 10 players were called up by Pape Thiaw, not counting Sadio Mané, who was absent due to injury. But for the 2026 World Cup, he will only have to select 8. In other words, 3 forwards selected during the last international break (against Peru and Gambia) will be left out of the squad. Based on their club performances and current form with the national team, the likely omissions will be Mamadou Diakhon, Boulaye Dia, and Habib Diallo. The other likely loser will be Cheikh Tidiane Sabaly, who was not called up during the last international break, a few months after his transfer to Vancouver, Canada, in the American league.
