Un pays interdit de Coupe du Monde à cause de ses visas et de Trump ?
With only thirty days until the start of the World Cup, the sky is darkening over the Iranian team, Team Melli's presence on American soil is hanging by a thread.
The countdown has begun. In just under a month, the eyes of the football world will be on America. For the Iranian players, the schedule was set: a base camp in Tucson, Arizona, and potentially electrifying matches against Belgium or Egypt. But as national teams finalize their rosters, the Iranians still don't know if they'll even be allowed to cross the border.
Amid a protracted armed and diplomatic conflict with the United States and Israel, the Islamic Republic's participation has become a security conundrum. To obtain the necessary permits, the delegation must normally transit through Ankara, Turkey, to submit to fingerprinting.
A standard procedure, but one which, in this climate of high tension, seems to be completely paralyzed.
"FIFA must provide us with guarantees."
Especially since the situation is completely blocked. Mehdi Taj, the head of the Iranian Football Federation, dropped a bombshell that has sent shockwaves through the international community. According to him, no visas have been issued to date. The question is no longer whether Iran is physically ready, but whether the country will even be allowed to set foot on the pitch.
"We will have a crucial meeting with FIFA tomorrow or the day after," the president insisted. His demand is clear: the world governing body must break its silence. "It must provide us with guarantees, because the visa issue is still unresolved." While Gianni Infantino continues to publicly assert that Iran will play its matches as scheduled, the situation is extremely urgent.
