Un carton à la télévision: Canal + a enregistré une énorme audience lors du choc Real Madrid-OM

Canal +, which broadcast the Champions League match between Real Madrid and OM on Tuesday at the Bernabeu (2-1), recorded a very high audience during the match.

Canal + scored a massive audience. On Tuesday evening, the encrypted channel broadcast the opening day match of the Champions League between Real Madrid and OM (2-1). And the audience responded, with an average of 2.01 million viewers (11.7% audience share among those aged 4+).

This is a record for a regular season match since the introduction of the new format last season, with a single league of thirty-six teams and eight matches for each of them. Marseille fans were eagerly awaiting this return to the Champions League. Under the previous format, the last group stage, played by the Marseille club, was in the 2023-2023 season.

This Wednesday (9 p.m.), Canal + will broadcast the match between PSG and Atalanta Bergamo, for the debut of the defending champion, who won his first Champions League title on May 31st by thrashing Inter in the final (5-0). For its part, AS Monaco will launch its Champions League adventure this Thursday (6:45 p.m.), against Club Brugge.

Real Madrid's second penalty? "Shameful," says De Zerbi

For OM, the defeat against the Merengue club was particularly frustrating. Timothy Weah opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, before Kylian Mbappé equalized with a penalty in the 28th minute. The French striker sealed the victory for Real Madrid with a second penalty in the 81st minute, despite his team being down by a man due to a red card issued in the 72nd minute against Dani Carvajal.

OM coach Roberto De Zerbi described Real Madrid's second penalty, awarded for a foul by Facundo Medina, as "shameful." "I would have said that too if it had been awarded for us," the Italian coach assured. "For me, it's not a penalty, ever. Not at the Bernabeu, not at the Vélodrome, not at Real Sociedad, nowhere. And I have no ulterior motive, I don't want to cause controversy. I'm just saying there wasn't a penalty. Period."

A Classic in Ligue 1 this Sunday

"To be penalized like that is a bit harsh. I'm not going to say it's an imaginary penalty because we can see there's hand contact. But the player tackles, he plays the ball and while he's on the ground, the ball touches his hand a little. It seems very harsh to me," said OM football director Medhi Benatia.
