Abdoulaye Sy, nouvel entraîneur de la Linguère : « Souleymane Sané, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge et moi »
Appointed as the new coach of Linguère de Saint-Louis, Abdoulaye Sy has already begun training sessions with the northern club. On the Prytanée Militaire pitch, where he led the first tests before the start of the season, the experienced technician is working hard to be ready for the championship kickoff.
With the season opener just weeks away, Abdoulaye Sy and his coaching staff are in the final stretch of preparation, testing more than 100 players from across Senegal. "Last year, Linguère had a good run in Ligue 1, with good statistics, especially during the second half of the season. We will therefore build on this framework, but also identify positions to strengthen," explained the coach.
The former international defender of Casa Sports, who until now had only managed academies, recognizes that a difficult, but exhilarating mission awaits him with Linguère.
"We all know that, for some time now, academies have played a major role in the development of national football. I sincerely believe I can bring to Linguère the experience I have acquired over the years in academies. In my eyes, there isn't a big difference," he added.
Former right-back for the national team, Abdoulaye Sy also recalled his first international cap, played alongside his friend Souleymane Sané, father of German international Leroy Sané. "It was against Servette Geneva, who were participating in a tournament in Africa. It was my first match with the Lions and I was tasked with marking Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. I still remember, the day before the match, Roger Mendy and other former players gave me advice on how to better contain Rummenigge, who was a great player. That match, against a Servette team that featured excellent players, had a profound impact on me," he said.
