After being stretchered off after only ten minutes of play against Parma in Serie A this Sunday (0-1), AC Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek was taken to hospital where he is expected to undergo surgery this Monday morning for several fractures to his head.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek's season is over. The AC Milan midfielder was violently struck by the Parma goalkeeper on Sunday evening in Serie A (0-1), plunging San Siro into a chilly atmosphere.

The incident occurred in the 7th minute of the match during a seemingly innocuous cross. Attempting to head the ball from the penalty spot, the 30-year-old player collided violently with Edoardo Corvi. Both men immediately went down, dazed.

Operation scheduled for Monday morning

It then took several long minutes before Ruben Loftus-Cheek was stretchered off the field, his mouth bleeding and his eyes half-closed. Rushed to the hospital, the player underwent tests to assess the severity of his injuries. The diagnosis came quickly.

"Following further examinations, Ruben Loftus-Cheek did not suffer a concussion or loss of consciousness. However, the impact caused fractures to his upper teeth and maxillary alveolar bone. He will undergo surgery," the club announced in the evening.

This operation, scheduled for Monday morning, seriously jeopardizes the end of the season for the England international (11 caps). It's a major blow for Massimiliano Allegri in the title race, as his midfielder had played in 23 of the 26 Serie A matches so far in the 2025-2026 season. With this defeat against Parma on Sunday, AC Milan now trails their Milanese rivals Inter by 10 points with 12 matchdays remaining in the championship.
