CAN 2025 : « Le Sénégal n’aura pas le droit à l’erreur », prévient Antoine Mendy
Present at the training session of the Senegalese national team, Antoine Mendy spoke about the Lions' rise in strength ahead of their entry into the AFCON 2025. The defender emphasized the rigor of the work done and the mindset of a group determined to make its mark from the first match.
A methodical preparation: "Step by step"
According to him, the preparation was carefully structured to gradually increase the intensity. "We trained for a week in Senegal and now we're here. We arrived on Friday," he explained. For Antoine Mendy, the objective is clear: to progress step by step in order to secure a victory right from the start, "with God's help."
When asked about the team's morale despite injuries and last-minute withdrawals, the player was reassuring but realistic. He acknowledged that the first match, particularly against Botswana, would be difficult. Far from underestimating this opponent, sometimes considered weaker, he urged vigilance: "Senegal cannot afford any mistakes. We will need maximum concentration from the very start of the competition."
For him, no team should be underestimated in this AFCON where surprises are frequent. The key to success will lie in discipline and total collective commitment.
Finally, Antoine Mendy wanted to send a strong message of solidarity. Despite the absences weighing on the squad, the unity of the locker room remains the foundation of the Lions. "The (injured) players are with us and we are with them," he concluded, reminding everyone that cohesion will be their best weapon to go as far as possible.
