CAN-2027 : stades en chantier, la CAF face aux retards des pays hôtes
With just over a year to go until kickoff, the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, awarded to the joint bid of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, is causing significant concern.
According to an inspection report from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), revealed by "Le Monde," major delays persist in the construction and renovation of stadiums and related hospitality infrastructure.
The document is particularly critical of Uganda, stating that "none of the inspected stadiums currently meet the Category 4 requirements."
Kenya, for its part, has also been called out due to insufficient progress on its construction sites.
In contrast, Tanzania currently appears to be the only country adhering to the established schedule.
Faced with these uncertainties, CAF is privately exploring alternative solutions. South Africa is positioning itself as a credible option to take over hosting duties, while Rwanda could step in to provide partial support if the situation does not improve rapidly.
Furthermore, a CAF delegation is currently in Uganda for a major strategic meeting with the three host nations.
