Affaire Prestianni-Vinicius : très mauvaise nouvelle pour l'Argentin
The outlook is darkening for Gianluca Prestianni. The young attacking midfielder's immediate future is in jeopardy following a far-reaching decision by UEFA and FIFA.
Following his altercation with Vinícius Júnior during the UEFA Champions League clash between SL Benfica and Real Madrid last February, the player's suspension has been extended to all competitions. Specifically, if Prestianni is called up by Lionel Scaloni for the 2026 World Cup, he would miss the first two matches in North America.
As a reminder, the 20-year-old player received a six-match suspension, three of which were suspended, for making homophobic remarks towards the Brazilian international. According to a FIFA spokesperson quoted in the Spanish press, the governing body's disciplinary committee has decided to extend the sanction initially imposed by UEFA worldwide. This decision is based on Article 70 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
