Finale Ligue des champions d’Afrique : Les Mamelodi Sundowns sacrés devant les FAR de Rabat
South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns have won the CAF Champions League. Having won the first leg 1-0, the "Brazilians of Pretoria" secured a draw in Morocco against the Royal Armed Forces of Rabat on Sunday (1-1).
Urged on by their fans, the Moroccans opened the scoring in the 40th minute through Rabie Hrimat from the penalty spot. FAR thought they would go into halftime with this lead, but they hadn't reckoned on the determination of the South Africans, who managed to equalize in stoppage time through Teboho Mokoena (45+7).
In the second half, the dominant Moroccans stormed the Mamelodi Sundowns goal, but the South Africans defended with great intelligence.
However, in the 77th minute, FAR Rabat were awarded a second penalty, giving them the chance to equalize on aggregate. But Rabie Hrimat's shot was saved by South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.
Thanks to this heroic draw achieved on Moroccan soil, Mamelodi Sundowns, winners in the first leg (1-0), win the trophy and succeed the Egyptians of Pyramids FC.
This is the club's second title in the competition after the one won in 2016.
