Six days after the end of the Africa Cup of Nations, African interclub competitions resumed this weekend with Matchday 3 of the CAF Champions League. RS Berkane, featuring Mamadou Lamine Camara, fresh from winning the African title with Senegal, hosted the defending champions, Pyramids FC of Egypt (2nd, 7 points). The match ended in a goalless draw (0-0).
Despite dropping points at home, RS Berkane remains top of Group A with 7 points. In the other match in this group, Power Dynamos and Rivers United also played to a 0-0 draw, a result that benefits neither team, both of whom are coming off two consecutive defeats.
In Group B, Al Ahly of Cairo dominated Young Africans (2-0) thanks to a brace from Trezeguet (45+3, 75th minute). This victory allows the competition's record holders to take sole possession of first place with 7 points, ahead of their opponents of the day (2nd, 4 points). In the other match in the group, JS Kabylie (4th, 2 points) and FAR Rabat (3rd, 2 points) played to a goalless draw (0-0).
In Group C, Al Hilal Omdurman of Sudan, featuring Senegalese defender Ousmane Diouf, secured a valuable point in South Africa against Mamelodi Sundowns (2-2). Following this match, the two teams occupy first and second place respectively, each with 5 points. In the other Group C match, Saint-Éloi Lupopo (4th, 1 pt) host MC Alger (3rd, 1 pt) this Sunday.
Finally, in Group D, Espérance de Tunis (1st, 5 pts) defeated Simba SC of Tanzania (2-0). Stade Malien (3rd, 4 pts) and Petro de Luanda (2nd, 4 pts), who face each other this Sunday, will have the opportunity to take the lead in the group with a victory.
