Algérie: Le fils de Zinedine Zidane, Luca débarque pour son premier rassemblement avec les Fennecs
A highly anticipated face stepped onto Algerian soil this Monday. Called up for the Algerian national team for the first time, Luca Zidane landed at Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers, watched by a few curious fans and numerous cameras. The 27-year-old goalkeeper, son of legend Zinedine Zidane, is about to experience his first few hours in green and white.
Dressed in a gray sweatshirt open over a white T-shirt, with a neatly trimmed beard, the Granada (La Liga) goalkeeper was welcomed in a calm but symbolic atmosphere. His arrival marks a turning point in his career, as he recently decided to accept coach Vladimir Petkovic's call to represent the Fennecs.
Two crucial matches await Algeria in the coming days as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers: a home game against Somalia this Thursday, followed by a trip to Uganda next Tuesday.
Trained at Real Madrid, having previously played for Racing Santander and Rayo Vallecano, Luca Zidane now hopes to write his own story with Algeria.
The Fennecs are top of Group G with 19 points, ahead of Uganda and Mozambique, who both have 15 points.
