Aliko Dangote révèle pourquoi il n’a pas réussi à acheter le club de football d’Arsenal
Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, Africa's richest man, has revealed why he abandoned his long-held dream of buying Arsenal football club, explaining that he chose to dedicate his resources to completing the $20 billion Dangote refinery project.
The billionaire industrialist made this revelation during a recent podcast interview with Nicolai Tangen, CEO of Norges Bank Investment Management.
Dangote stated that Arsenal was valued at around $2 billion at the time he was seriously considering a takeover, but ultimately concluded that investing in his refinery project was the most sensible decision.
"I'm a big Arsenal fan, yes, I almost bought the club," said Dangote.
“When I was focused on the Arsenal takeover, I was also making sure the refinery was completed. At the time, Arsenal was worth around $2 billion, so I asked myself: should I invest my $2 million in Arsenal and let the company fail, or continue the work and remain a devoted supporter of the club?”
Dangote stated that he had ultimately decided to remain a supporter rather than attempt to take control of the club, pointing out that Arsenal FC's current valuation made a takeover even more unrealistic.
"Today they are worth billions, and it's really not worth my time to be interested in them," he said.
"Every time they play, I always wear the t-shirt," he said.
In his message to young Africans, Dangote stressed the importance of hard work and continental pride.
“My advice to young Africans is to work hard and believe that the future is better than the current situation. Africa is a land of opportunity, and they should stay there,” he said.
Dangote's name has been publicly mentioned for over 15 years as a potential bidder to buy Arsenal.
