Manchester City secured a splendid and very rare victory at Anfield against Liverpool (2-1) on Sunday, and maintained maximum pressure on Arsenal, the Premier League leaders with a six-point advantage with thirteen games remaining.

Dominik Szoboszlai placed a beautiful direct free kick into Gianluigi Donnarumma's net to put the Reds ahead (74th minute) and open up a clear path for the Gunners, who are in search of their first title since 2004.

But the comeback achieved thanks to Bernardo Silva (84th) and Erling Haaland, on a penalty (90th+3), revived Manchester City, and all the suspense in the final stretch of the championship.

Pep Guardiola's team (2nd, 50 pts) remains in contact with Arsenal (1st, 56 pts) and can still hope to regain its throne, which it has only relinquished to Liverpool twice (in 2020 and 2025) in the last eight years.

- "Hope is there" -

"There is hope, we will fight until the end," promised captain Bernardo Silva on Sky Sports. "We are happy but we have to continue to do our job, which we haven't done well lately."

Citizens 2026 managed to win at Anfield, something their predecessors had only managed once under Guardiola, in February 2021 in a stadium emptied of all spectators due to the health crisis.

This is only Manchester City's second victory at their northern English neighbours since the Premier League was launched in 1992.

In the first half, the visitors dominated possession and rendered Liverpool completely toothless (not a single shot on target). In the second half, they were severely shaken, stunned by Szoboszlai's rocket of a shot, before turning the game around completely.

They even scored a third goal through Rayan Cherki (90th+10), but the referee disallowed it amidst much confusion.

Liverpool (6th, 39 pts) are seeing their chances of qualifying for the next Champions League slip further away, as the last places are currently held by Manchester United (4th, 44 pts) and Chelsea (5th, 43 pts).

- Palace finally wins -

In the mid-afternoon, Crystal Palace brought back from Brighton (1-0), their arch-rival, a first victory in ten league matches.

The club from the south suburbs of London climbs back up to thirteenth place (32 pts), overtaking Brighton (14th, 31 pts), and has a nine-point cushion over West Ham (18th, 23 pts), the first team in the relegation zone.

"It's a huge relief," admitted coach Oliver Glasner. When the poor results piled up, "we organized barbecues and tried to maintain a positive atmosphere at training, but nothing can replace winning. We want to get back to being addicted to winning."

Sunday's goal came from the feet of Ismaïla Sarr (61st minute), who scored with his team's first shot on target.

Brighton have won only once in two months and went to the dressing room to a chorus of boos at the end of the match.

"We're not doing enough as a team, we're not training hard enough and we haven't fought hard enough," observed captain Lewis Dunk.
