Arabie Saoudite : Sadio Mané prend le dessus sur Édouard Mendy et rapproche Al-Nassr du titre
Sadio Mané and his club Al-Nassr took a decisive step in the Saudi Pro League title race. Facing Al-Ahli, featuring Senegalese goalkeeper Édouard Mendy, Mané's teammates secured a 2-0 victory on Wednesday in the 30th round of matches.
Led by Cristiano Ronaldo, Al-Nassr made the difference in the final quarter of an hour of a match that had remained undecided for much of the game. The Riyadh club (1st, 76 points) thus moves a step closer to the national title.
Since their 3-1 defeat to Al-Hilal on January 12, Al-Nassr have been on an impressive winning streak, with 21 consecutive victories across all competitions. Their latest win against Al-Ahli (2nd, 66 points), the recent AFC Champions League winners, allows Mané and his teammates to consolidate their position at the top of the table, eight points ahead of Al-Hilal, who have a game in hand.
The deadlock was broken in the final quarter of an hour. From a corner taken by João Félix, Cristiano Ronaldo headed home in the 76th minute, his fifth goal in the last six matches. Late in the game, Kingsley Coman sealed the victory with a powerful right-footed shot under the crossbar past Édouard Mendy (90th minute).
With four matchdays remaining in the championship, Al-Nassr is now heading straight for the title.
