Who will succeed Ousmane Dembélé as the 2026 Ballon d'Or winner? The suspense remains. However, the organizers have already officially announced the date and location of the next ceremony to award the prestigious individual trophy.
The event will take place on Monday, October 26, 2026 in London. This is a first in several years, as the ceremony will not be held at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the usual venue for the event.
This choice is not insignificant. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Ballon d'Or, the organizers wished to pay tribute to Stanley Matthews, the first winner in the history of the trophy in 1956.
In a statement released this Thursday, the organization explains that this relocation to the British capital constitutes "a tribute to English footballer Stanley Matthews, the first winner in the history of the Ballon d'Or 70 years ago".
The press release also states that "holding this 70th edition in the British capital allows the Ballon d'Or to continue its development and strengthen its status as a prestigious brand internationally."
The elite of world football are therefore expected in London for a ceremony that is already shaping up to be historic.
