Barrages Mondial-2026 : Félix Tshisekedi promet une prime exceptionnelle aux Léopards
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) wants to return to the biggest stage in world football. Fifty-two years after its only participation in the World Cup, in 1974 in Germany, the DRC is determined to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
To galvanize his players towards this goal, President Félix Tshisekedi played the financial motivation card.
According to Sport News Africa, the Congolese head of state has promised a bonus of one million dollars (approximately €860,000) to each player on the national team if they qualify for the intercontinental playoffs. This significant gesture reflects the country's determination to see the Leopards return to their former glory.
Notably, this exceptional bonus would be paid even if the DRC fails to secure its ticket to the final phase scheduled from June 11 to July 19, 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
But before dreaming of the World Cup, Chancel Mbemba's teammates must overcome the hurdle of the African playoffs. They will first face Cameroon, before a potential clash against the winner of the Gabon-Nigeria match, on November 13 and 16, 2025, in Rabat. These two crucial matches will determine whether the DRC advances to the intercontinental playoffs, where six nations will battle for the final two qualifying spots.
Led by a talented generation and now supported at the highest level, the DRC hopes to write a new chapter in its football history.
