Basket : l’objectif fixé à Cheikh Sarr avec les Lionnes
Cheikh Sarr is the new coach of the Senegalese women's basketball team, the Lionesses. The Senegalese coach succeeds American Otis Hughley. His mission? "To continue the momentum of development of women's basketball in Senegal, to strengthen the team's competitiveness, and to proudly represent the country on the continental and international stage," stated the president of the Senegalese Basketball Federation, Babacar Ndiaye, in an interview published this Monday in Le Soleil des Sports.
This should translate into another title for the Lionesses after their last one in 2015. Ms. Ndiaye: "There are objectives: first, to qualify the team for the World Cup. Once that objective is achieved, we will then aim for the 2028 Olympic Games, but that's not a primary objective. The coach's objective will be to win Afrobasket 2029."
The head of Senegalese basketball insists: "This is very important to me. I am convinced that our teams, both men's and women's, can win the Afrobasket. Today, this is the Federation's main objective, and we are working to return to the top at the next two Afrobasket tournaments."
