Basket : pourquoi Cheikh Sarr est revenu sur le banc des Lionnes
In an interview published this Monday in Le Soleil des Sports, the president of the Senegalese Basketball Federation, Babacar Ndiaye, listed the reasons that led to Cheikh Sarr's return to the Lionesses' bench. "As I've always said, we prioritize local coaches, especially for the women's teams," the head of Senegalese basketball reiterated. "There was only one exception, with the American Otis Hughley. But since 2015, the women's national team has always been led by local coaches."
Second reason: "Cheikh Sarr is a very experienced coach, with extensive knowledge of African basketball. He has experience in African and world competitions, and he is rigorous."
Also – the third factor cited by Mr. Ndiaye – “he showed a willingness, a desire to return to Senegal; it is a challenge for him. All these elements motivated the Federation’s decision.”
Cheikh Sarr led the Rwandan women's team at the last Afrobasket. Before that, he had coached the Lions and the Lionesses.
