Tournoi de qualification au Mondial de basket : Jean-Jacques Boissy donne sa part de vérité après l’incident avec la police

Senegalese international Jean Jacques Boissy has broken his silence to set the record straight after the incident with police officers at the end of the World Cup basketball qualifying tournament.

In a statement published on his social media, the player claims to have noticed that "a lot of things are being said and some are being taken out of context", also regretting the silence of some people who are supposed to speak out on the matter.

From the outset, Jean-Jacques Boissy was keen to reiterate his deep respect for the defense and security forces. "I deeply respect the law enforcement agencies and the work they do. I am the son of a soldier and I grew up at Camp Leclerc in an atmosphere of respect and discipline. To say that I have disrespected the law enforcement agencies is to really misunderstand me," he stated.

According to his account, the incident occurred after the match, while a large crowd was still inside the stadium. His mother's phone had been stolen, and she was waiting at the door while his father checked inside to see if the device had been left behind.

Upon arrival, the player claims to have found his little sister crying. She reportedly explained to him that a police officer was yelling at their mother, ordering her to "get out," without trying to understand the situation.

Jean-Jacques Boissy states that he then asked an officer, "respectfully," if these remarks had indeed been made, believing it inappropriate to shout at an elderly person. He claims that one of the officers replied: "And if that were the case? Are you going to handle this? What do you intend to do? Who do you think you are?"

As he walked towards his mother, the basketball player explained that another police officer, not involved in the initial exchange, began to criticize him for questioning them, before the situation escalated. "One of them grabbed my t-shirt and another grabbed my hair," he recounted.

At the same time, the crowd reportedly thickened around him. Fearing for the safety of his belongings, he claims to have entrusted his phones to a police officer who was trying to calm his colleagues. With the intervention of a superior officer, his devices were allegedly kept safe before he was escorted to the team bus.

In his message, Jean-Jacques Boissy was keen to emphasize that some officers present on the scene showed understanding and helped to defuse the tension.

"I forgive. But I will not accept that history be distorted to make me look like something I am not," he reiterated.
