Defeated this Sunday by Franc, Tapha Tine missed a golden opportunity to move closer to a long-awaited fight against Modou Lo, the "King of the Arenas." This latest poor performance, his second in a row, reignites doubts surrounding the "Giant of Baol," often described as formidable but regularly struggling against the top contenders in the arena.
Defeated by Émile François Gomis, alias Franc, in a swift bout lasting less than three minutes, the Baol Mbollo stable member suffered his second consecutive loss. This setback was one too many for the 45-year-old wrestler who had hoped for a major showdown against Modou Lo. Beyond the result, the manner of the defeat raises questions: Tapha Tine once again appeared outmatched against a top-tier opponent.
This observation is unfortunately not new. Since the beginning of his career, Tapha Tine, despite his impressive physique and recognized power (1.97m, 130kg), has often stumbled against the top names in Senegalese wrestling. He has suffered significant defeats against Balla Gaye 2 (twice), Lac de Guiers, Ama Baldé, and Issa Pouye. At every crucial moment, when it came to taking a major step forward in his career, "the giant of Baol" missed his opportunity.
The first defeat against Balla Gaye 2 had already left a bitter taste in the mouths of his supporters, who returned home disappointed after seeing their champion beaten. Even the subsequent victories, which had allowed him to secure a rematch against "the Lion of Guédiawaye," were not enough to erase this image, as Tapha Tine fell again at the crucial moment.
By losing to Franc, Tapha Tine not only missed out on a prestigious fight, but he also confirmed his recurring difficulties in major tournaments. An impressive giant physically, his ambitions continue to be thwarted by a harsh reality: against the elite of the arena, the colossus from Baol still struggles to convince.
