Boxe: le chauffeur de Joshua en garde à vue après l'accident mortel au Nigeria
The man who was driving the car involved in a road accident in which British boxer Anthony Joshua was injured and two other passengers were killed, has been taken into custody after leaving the hospital, a police spokesman told AFP on Thursday.
The driver, who was slightly injured, "is currently in custody in connection with Anthony Joshua's accident," said Oluseyi Babaseyi of the Ogun State Police.
"The investigation is ongoing," he continued, emphasizing the "confidential" nature of the investigations, without specifying whether the driver would face prosecution.
On Monday, the man was driving the car in which Joshua and two of his relatives, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, were traveling on a busy highway linking Lagos and Ibadan (southwest), when the SUV collided with a stationary truck.
According to Nigerian police and Ogun State authorities, Ayodele and Ghami died instantly.
Initial investigations showed that the vehicle was traveling at excessive speed and that a tire had blown out before the accident, according to the Ogun State Traffic Enforcement and Control Agency (TRACE).
After leaving the hospital on Wednesday, Anthony Joshua went with his mother to the funeral home where the bodies of his team members were being prepared for repatriation to Great Britain.
A government source suggested to AFP on Thursday that the victims' remains may have already been repatriated. The boxer's whereabouts are currently unknown.
