Buteur en finale de CAN : Pape Gueye entre dans l’histoire
By defeating Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations final (1-0 after extra time), Senegal secured their second title. In the last four editions, the Lions of Teranga have achieved the remarkable feat of reaching three finals. This impressive consistency, however, had never been rewarded with a goal scored in the final… until this edition.
In 2002, the final against Cameroon ended in a goalless draw (0-0) before the Indomitable Lions won 3-2 on penalties. In 2019 in Egypt, Aliou Cissé's Senegal lost to Algeria (1-0). Then in 2021 in Cameroon, for their first continental title, Senegal beat Egypt 4-2 on penalties after another goalless match.
This time, history took a different turn. By scoring the only goal of the final against Morocco, Pape Gueye became the first Senegalese player to score in an Africa Cup of Nations final. A historic goal that will forever be etched in the memory of Senegalese football.
