CAN 2025 : Habib Diarra forfait ?
Habib Diarra, injured in training, has successfully undergone groin surgery. In an official statement released on Tuesday, his club, Sunderland, provided an update on the Senegalese international.
"Sunderland AFC midfielder Habib Diarra underwent successful surgery on Monday. After injuring his groin in training ahead of the Premier League match against Aston Villa, the 21-year-old will now begin a period of rehabilitation at the Academy of Light. Diarra, who moved to Wearside from RC Strasbourg in July, is expected to return to action in December. We wish him a speedy recovery," the English club's official website reads.
This is a real blow for the Senegalese midfielder, who was beginning to adapt well to English football. Having arrived at Sunderland this summer from Strasbourg for a transfer estimated at 36 million, Habib Diarra was highly anticipated for his debut. Consistent at the start of the season, the Senegalese talent was already putting in a string of quality performances.
But this nasty injury has halted the Guédiawaye native's fine form. His unavailability, estimated at more than two months, now raises the question: will he be fit in time to compete in the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, which starts on December 18?
