CAN 2025-Iliman Ndiaye sur le panenka de Diaz: «Il voulait de comporter comme une star»
Having won the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final with Senegal against Morocco (1-0 after extra time), Iliman Ndiaye looked back on one of the major turning points of this match marked by the missed penalty by Brahim Diaz.
In an interview with The Times, the former Olympique de Marseille player gave a frank assessment of the Moroccan attacking midfielder's attempt, which came at a crucial moment in the final. "I found it a bit disrespectful. I'm not saying he wanted to disrespect us, but it was either that, or he wanted to act like a star after everything that had just happened," Ndiaye said.
For the Senegalese international, the stakes of this action went far beyond a simple duel with the goalkeeper. "He was just minutes away from becoming the king of his country. They hadn't won for so many years and all he had to do was score that goal," he added, expressing his incomprehension at the Moroccan player's choice of penalty taker.
According to Iliman Ndiaye, this episode strengthened Senegal's confidence, which was already solid in its organization and mental strength. "I don't understand why he did that, but I'm glad he did. I think that after that, we knew we were going to win," he concluded.
